After many hours of reading posts on the net such as, "Why won't Firefox (etc) show my tooltips for images?" I discovered that alt is not the rightway to achieve this.Alt only worked for years in Internet Explorer because of a BUG which has apparently now been fixed by Microsoft. The correct spec for tooltips is the title tag!
OK, so now I know, but I'm faced with manually updating hundreds of web pages and adding title to every image. Hours and hours of tedious work!
Like superman, Fly Software came to the rescue with a brilliant and affordable little program called Alt&Title that literally saved me days of work. Alt&Title ferrets out every alt tag on your web page and ADDS a title tag just before each alt tag, and with the same word content as is in your alt tag. Voila! Job finished.
Well done to the folks at Fly Software. BTW, I found their support to be excellent. 10/10
